Xupernova Powers Large-Scale EV Bus Charging Project with Chengdu Public Transport Group

Enabling Clean Mobility at Scale

As cities accelerate the transition toward electrified public transportation, large-scale charging infrastructure has become a critical foundation. In collaboration with Chengdu Public Transport Group, Xupernova has contributed to the development of an advanced charging and energy solution supporting one of the largest electric bus fleets in China.

With a fleet of over 14,000 electric buses, Chengdu represents a benchmark for urban electrification, requiring highly efficient, reliable, and scalable charging infrastructure.

Integrated PV + Energy Storage + Charging Solution

To address the challenges of high energy demand and grid stability, the project adopts an integrated “PV + BESS + EV Charging” architecture.

This solution combines:

  • Photovoltaic (PV) generation for clean energy supply
  • Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for peak shaving and energy balancing
  • High-power EV charging systems for fleet operations

Through this integrated approach, the system enables:

  • optimized energy utilization
  • reduced grid pressure during peak hours
  • improved overall operational efficiency

The result is a more sustainable and cost-effective charging ecosystem tailored for large-scale public transport.

High-Power Cluster Charging with Split Architecture

Given the scale of the fleet, the project deploys high-power cluster charging systems based on split charger architecture.

In this configuration:

  • a centralized power cabinet distributes energy
  • multiple charging terminals share the power dynamically
  • charging power is allocated based on real-time vehicle demand

This approach provides several advantages:

  • higher equipment utilization
  • flexible power distribution across multiple buses
  • reduced infrastructure redundancy
  • improved scalability for future expansion

It is particularly well-suited for bus depots with high vehicle density and synchronized charging demand.

1000kWMCSLiquid-Cooled Ultra-Fast Charging

To further enhance operational efficiency, the project incorporates 1000kWMCS liquid-cooled ultra-fast charging systems.

These chargers are designed to support:

  • high-current charging with minimal energy loss
  • stable operation under continuous heavy-duty use
  • improved thermal performance through advanced liquid cooling

For bus fleets operating on tight schedules, ultra-fast charging significantly reduces downtime and ensures vehicles can return to service quickly.

Reliable Performance for Demanding Operations

Public transport applications require high reliability and consistent performance. The solution deployed in Chengdu is engineered to meet these requirements through:

  • robust system integration
  • stable high-power output
  • optimized energy management strategies

By combining energy storage with high-power charging, the system ensures continuous and stable operation even under peak load conditions.

Supporting the Future of Urban Transportation

The Chengdu project demonstrates how integrated energy and charging solutions can effectively support large-scale electric bus operations.

As cities worldwide continue to electrify public transportation, solutions that combine renewable energy, storage, and high-power charging will play an increasingly important role.

Xupernova remains committed to delivering scalable, efficient, and reliable technologies to support the global transition toward sustainable mobility.
